Michigan State University will host a North American Chestnut Farm Workshop. The purpose of this meeting is to provide practical information to growers with established orchards, as well as growers thinking about establishing chestnut orchards in North America. A meeting of this magnitude has not been held in the United States since 1992. Take advantage of all the expertise that will be at this meeting and join us in Jackson, Michigan, August 30 – Sept. 2.

Location:      Holiday Inn Jackson NW
                        2696 Bob McClain Drive
                        Jackson, MI 49202
North American Chestnut Workshop participants will hear presentations from Australian, Chinese, Turkish, and Italian researchers, and from chestnut growers representing other regions of North America. The workshop will come to an end with an optional tour for participants to see the Michigan State University Clarksville Research Station, a chestnut orchard and a processing and receiving facility.
Optional Chestnut Bus Tour: On Sunday, September 2, a bus tour to the Michigan State University Clarksville Experiment Station will leave the Holiday Inn in the morning. If you register for the Sunday bus tour, you will receive a box lunch as part of the fee. Everyone, including companions and family members not going on the tour must check out, but can leave suitcases at the Holiday Inn. Companions and family members not going on the Optional Chestnut Bus Tour can do whatever they want during this time, however a visit to the lake at Camp McGregor will be available. A shelter, changing rooms and contact people will be available at the lake; however, no lifeguard will be on duty (food will be available for purchase at Camp McGregor). Companions and family members will return to the Holiday Inn in the afternoon when the Optional Chestnut Bus Tour returns. Simply tell us sometime during your stay if you wish to go to Camp McGregor on Sunday. You may drive your own car to the lake (maps will be provided) or you can go with a driver and a van. (We will have been to this facility twice during the conference, so it will not be an unfamiliar setting to companions and family members).
The North American Chestnut Farm Workshop in Jackson, Michigan (August 30 – Sept. 2) will be held a few days before the International Chestnut Symposium in Shepherdstown, West Virginia (September 4-8). These are two separate meetings. You must register for each meeting separately.
