Join us for a journey back in time to learn about the history of maple sugaring and tools through time. Explore present day sugaring operations at Tollgate Farm as you hike into the sugar bush to identify and tap a maple tree. Of course, you’ll have an opportunity to taste delicious maple syrup. This is one of our most popular programs, and our schedule is filling up fast!

Our 2-hour weekday Maple Sugaring Field Visit programs run Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Time frames reflect a 30-minute gathering time prior to program.

Children are $10 per person. Adults/parents are $6 per person. School chaperones are free up to a maximum of 12. Additional chaperones are $6 per person.

The MSU Tollgate Education Center is a great outdoor learning environment and offers hand-on experiences all year long. Go to to learn more about additional program offerings.

Program availability is on a first come, first served basis. Schools should register early to secure their spot! The lunch area is available to groups following the program. You will NOT have staff support or supervision and the area will need to be left clean and tidy. The area includes picnic tables and recycle/trash receptacles. In case of inclement weather, the 1800s barn MAY be available for your group. Please check with program staff for more information. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to appointment for gathering time.

The earlier a tentative date can be offered, the better able we are to schedule your program without a conflict. Ideally, groups of 60 or fewer students visit the farm at one time. 40 is an ideal size group.

Payment is due two weeks prior to the event. For information regarding possible scholarships, go to
