Location: Tollgate, 28115 Meadowbrook Road, Novi, MI 48377

The Harvest Farm Ecology Program is designed for students to experience agriculture by learning about farm sustainability and the environment. Life cycles and system interdependency are revealed as students visit the fields, greenhouse, and resident farm animals. Visits to the farm are scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays, with some Saturdays available for community group programs. Classes are welcome to have lunch on the farm (weather permitting) and take a self-guided hike on our marked trails.
Some of the exciting Harvest Farm Ecology activities include:
- Take a wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch and choose a pumpkin to take home
- Enjoy a fall snack of cider and a donut
- Visit the chickens and learn about their role on the farm
- See where produce is grown year-round
- Explore life cycles
- Press apples into apple cider
The MSU Tollgate Education Center is a great outdoor learning environment and offers hand-on experiences all year long. Go to http://tollgate.msu.edu/schoolprograms/field_trips to learn more about additional program offerings such as:
- Maple Sugaring
- Honey Bees and Entomology
- Pond Study
- Water and Forest Ecology
- Earth Science
Program availability is on a first come, first served basis. Schools should register early to secure their spot! The lunch area is available to groups following the program. You will NOT have staff support or supervision and the area will need to be left clean and tidy. The area includes picnic tables and recycle/trash receptacles. In case of inclement weather, the 1800s barn MAY be available for your group. Please check with program staff for more information. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to appointment.
The earlier a tentative date can be offered, the better able we are to schedule your program without a conflict. Ideally, groups of 60 or fewer students visit the farm at one time. 40 is an ideal size group.
Payment is due two weeks prior to the event. For information regarding possible scholarships, go to http://tollgate.msu.edu/schoolprograms/field_trips/scholarships_for_school_groups.
