Horse and farm owners are invited to a sunset pasture walk on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center. Besty Dierberger from the Michigan Natural Resources Conservation Service will lead the pasture walk in small paddocks and large pastures. Afterward, we will meet in the classroom for a panel discussion withMichigan State University Extension experts to answer your questions on Michigan pastures. The MSU Extension panel includes expertise in horse and small ruminant nutrition, as well as forage and pasture management. The panel will answer your questions about pasture establishment, maintenance, and renovation, as well as the best forage varieties for both small ruminants and horses. Dr. Judy Marteniuk, MSU veterinarian, will also be available to answer your animal-related health questions.
This program is a joint effort from Michigan State University Extension and Michigan’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. My Horse University, an online horse management program based out of MSUE, will sponsor cider and donuts during the panel discussion. In case of rain, we will meet in the HTRC classroom for our panel discussion.
While the pasture walk is free of charge, please register so that we will have a headcount for refreshments by contacting Carla McLachlan at email@example.com or 571-432-5402.
