Teams of three to four students in grades 7-12 work with an adult coach to make a tasty, healthy school meal featuring Michigan-grown and U. S. Department of Agriculture-sourced foods.
First, student teams submit recipes that are fit for a healthy school lunch meal and feature local, seasonal foods. Recipe contest submissions due by 5 p.m. on March 26, 2013. Next, up to eight teams will be selected to bring their recipes to life in a cook-off competition at Michigan State University on May 9, 2013. Open to all 7-12 grade students enrolled in Michigan schools. Teams must consist of three to four students and at least one adult coach. MSU Extension educators will serve as coaches of one or more teams. Visit the Michigan Junior Chef website for rules and more information.
