Apple season has begun! Apples are Cultivate Michigan's last featured food of the year. Join us on Friday, October 17, for a tour at Blake's Orchard & Cider Mill in Armada. 17985 Armada Center Road Armada, MI 48005 - Friday, October 17, 2014 - 10:30 AM to 01:30 PM Paul, Pete or Andrew Blake will lead the tour of their home farm, one of three locations in the area. This historic farm started in 1946, and is still a family owned and operated orchard & cider mill rooted in strong family traditions and a commitment to excellence. Also, the Blakes have also sold to institutions. Come learn more about how they got started and what's worked well over the years. Apples, pumpkins, cider, hard cider, fresh produce, baked and preserved items will be available for purchase on this tour. Their orchard was one of the first “Pick Your Own" orchards in Michigan, and now boasts a Cider Mill, Orchard Café, Cider House & Winery and a newly remodeled Farm Market & Bakery. Schedule: • 10:30a.m. – arrive at Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill • 11:00am – tour Orchard, Cider Mill, Farm Market & Bakery, Cider House & Winery • 1p.m. – lunch in the Orchard Café • 1:30p.m. – shop in the Market & Bakery (optional!) Please register by Friday, October 10!!! This tour is free and open to all Farm to Institution practitioners, farmers, suppliers, advocates, supporters and researchers. Lunch will be provided. Attendees must provide their own transportation to the tour location and will be provided with directions and more details closer to the tour date. Please note, this tour is not handicap nor wheelchair accessible.
