Mental health and substance use issues are common. In this training, participants will learn about risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses and substance use crises. Participants will also develop skills through a five-step action plan to offer initial help in a mental health crisis, and to connect people to appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. Topics include depression, anxiety, suicide, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and alcohol and drug use.

Participants who attend the entire training will receive a certificate of completion.  The National Council for Behavioral Health manages Mental Health First Aid and maintains a list of people who have completed training. In order to receive a certificate of completion, the instructors must register your email address in the secure, online Mental Health First Aid system. Email addresses will not be shared with any other organizations or entities and will not be subscribed to any e-mail lists. Please select ‘yes’ in the drop-down box on the registration form, asking about whether your email address can be shared only with the National Council for Behavioral Health.
