‘Lunch and Learn’ about pickles, August 5

A food preservation Lunch and Learn will take place on Monday, August 5, from noon to 1 p.m., (Central time) at the Iron County (WI) Courthouse.

It is jointly sponsored by Iron County (WI) University of Wisconsin Extension and Gogebic County MSU Extension. The topic will be making pickles.

The Lunch and Learn will originate on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and be transmitted to attendees by computer web connection. The session will highlight fermenting genuine dill pickles and sauerkraut, as well as making quick process pickles and relishes.

Participants are invited to bring lunch or a snack, as they wish. MSU Extension educator Lucia Patritto and UWEX educator Andrea Newby will be available to answer canning and other food preservation questions following the webinar.

There is no charge to attend, but registration would be appreciated so that seating can be arranged. Please call UW Extension at (715) 561-2695 or MSU Extension at (906) 663-4045 to register. After hours callers may leave their name and the number of people attending. A subsequent Lunch and Learn will take place on August 19, 2013, also from noon to 1 p.m. The topic will be “Drying Foods at Home”.
