Lunch & Learn:  Freezing Produce!

This Lunch and Learn session will focus on retaining the 'taste of summer': peak taste, color and texture,when freezing fruits and vegetables. We will discuss whether pre-treatment is necessary and the importance of using proper packaging.

It takes place on Monday, September 9, 2013, from noon to 1:30 p.m., (Central time) at the Iron County (WI) Courthouse. It is jointly sponsored by Iron County University of Wisconsin Extension and Gogebic County MSU Extension.

The Lunch and Learn is an archived copy of one recorded earlier this year on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. MSU Extension educator Lucia Patritto and UWEX educator Andrea Newby will be available to answer canning and other food preservation questions following the session and will perform pressure canner checks for one hour before the session. Participants are invited to bring lunch or a snack, as they wish.

There is no charge to attend, but registration would be appreciated so that seating and handouts can be arranged. Subsequent Lunch and Learn sessions will take place on September 16 (Making Jams, Jellies, and other Sweet Spreads), September 23 (Canning Vegetables Safely), and September 30 (Canning Tomatoes and Tomato Products), also from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Iron County (WI) Courthouse.
