Lighting Applications in Floriculture Workshop

Three types of lighting are utilized in controlled-environment production of horticultural crops: photoperiodic lighting to regulate flowering supplemental lighting to increase plant growth in the greenhouse sole-source lighting to produce uniform young plants indoors Dr. Runkle will discuss these three lighting techniques and how new LEDs compare with conventional lamps such as incandescent, CFL, and high-pressure sodium. Results from the latest lighting research performed at MSU will be shared, including the pros and cons of producing seedlings indoors.
