Northwest Michigan is blessed with outstanding water resources that draw people to our part of the state. Protecting inland lake shorelines is vital to economic development and environmental protection. This program will cover the following topics: how to assess the situation on your lakes and streams, maps and data resources, Master Plan goals and objectives for shoreline protection, how to use an aerial photo to identify problem areas, zoning ordinance options for setbacks, buffer strips, shoreline erosion control structures, lot area coverage and site plan review, practical considerations, and how shoreline regulation fits with voluntary approaches. Dean Solomon, MSU Extension Senior Educator, will be presenting this workshop. Dean is recognized as an expert on local land use policy and natural resource protection through strategic and forward-looking planning.
The program will be held in the Manistee City Hall (3rd floor), from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015. Discounted early bird registration is available until March 23, 2015. For more registration information please visit: http://www.networksnorthwest.org/planning/news.
