Buying a house is a huge investment – most likely it is the largest single transaction you will ever make. The last thing you want is to get saddled with surprise costs, a mortgage you cannot afford, or find problems with your new house that could have been found earlier with a proper home inspection. With Homebuyer Education, you will come into your housing search with valuable information about the process that will help you navigate the technicalities and avoid falling into a money pit. You will learn:
- The advantages of homeownership
- Steps in the home buying process
- The costs of homeownership
- Why good credit is important
- How to determine how much house you can afford
- Who is on your home buying team
- Mortgage loan basics
- How to maintain your investment
Classes are free and open to the public and registration is required. To register contact: Beth Martinéz, 734-720-7689, ext. 104, Mart1751@anr.msu.edu or the library at 734-287-4840. A certificate will be given for completion of the class and may be used for MSHDA or other homeownership programs.
