Historic Preservation 101: Community and Economic Investment

Participate in an introductory presentation on why and how to preserve, including the value of sense of place, heritage tourism, other economic benefits, and different types of historic designations. Staff from the Michigan Historic Preservation Network will answer questions and discuss the benefits of including historic preservation into community planning. Participants will learn:

  1. What historic preservation is and how it benefits communities;
  2. About the various historic designations available and what planners should be aware of regarding designations; and
  3. About the state enabling legislation for local historic district ordinances.

The webinar offers 1 hour of AICP certification maintenance credits. Master Citizen Planners will also receive 1 hour of continuing education for participation in the webinar.

Fee: $10 for Master Citizen Planners or members of the MI Historic Preservation Network (MHPN); $15 for others
