Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Quarantine: What You Need to Know

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has established the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Interior Quarantine to protect Michigan’s native and cultivated hemlock trees from hemlock woolly ad- elgid. The new quarantine will go into effect on July 5, 2017. MSU Extension and MDARD will be offering a free program to help you learn about complying with the new quarantine.

Topics to be covered:

  • The biology and lifecycle of Hemlock Woolly Adelgid
  • The current prevalence of the pest in Michigan
  • The new quarantine
  • How to comply with the new quarantine
  • A field demonstration of properly applying the necessary insecticides
