Come to the Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market at Island Park on August 20th to get your dial gauge tested. Or call the MSU Extension office at 989-317-4079 to make arrangements to bring your dial gauge canner in for testing. Pressure canning is a home food preservation method that, if done correctly, can preserve food for the long months when fresh produce is not available. Pressure canning is the only safe method to can vegetables, meats, poultry and seafood. Tested recipes allow for the internal temperature of 240°F to be reached by this method. It is important that your pressure canner is in good condition, have a good seal and that your dial gauge is accurate.
