The program “Form of Function: Zoning Based on Land use or Based on Design” is to introduce the concept of form based code, or zoning, for those considering using this approach for their zoning ordinance.
Form based code is often the preferred type, or style, of zoning for urban situations, resulting in faster approvals, less red tape for a developer, and resulting in the type of development that is more likely what the community wants. This program explains the basics behind this style of zoning.
Instructors are Kurt H. Schindler, AICP, Senior Educator with MSU Extension, and Kathy Egan, Suttons Bay and Bingham Townships Planner. Egan and Schindler were participants in the applied research concerning Form Based Code in an urban setting (among the first such codes adopted in Michigan).
