Ever wished you could spray tree fruits without a sprayer?

Come see Michigan State University’s first-year progress on the development of a commercial scale fixed canopy spray system! The Fixed Canopy Spray System Field Day will begin and end with a live demonstration of a functioning prototype system. Project researchers will be on hand to explain how the system works and answer your questions on potential applications in apples and sweet cherries – this project is in the idea stage and grower input is very important.

The event will take place at the MSU Clarksville Research Center, 9302 Portland Road, Clarksville, Mich. (view map). Please meet at the parking lot by the main office and we will carpool to the demo site from there.

Open attendance – no registration required!

Agenda:

  • 9 a.m. – Welcome
  • 9:15 a.m. – Apple Demonstration
  • 10 a.m. – Cherry Discussion
  • 11 a.m. – Apple Demonstration (repeated)

This is a USDA SCRI-funded Coordinated Ag Project with a research and extension team from Michigan, Washington and New York. Our goal is to develop and evaluate a solid set canopy delivery system for apples and cherries. It is a completely innovative way of applying protective chemicals and nutrients to these crops. We have been funded for the first two years, in which we will focus on engineering, horticulture and pest management issues, although work will be conducted in all areas.
