From July through September the Lenawee Conservation District will be hosting several Fields to the Great Lakes events. Registration is free to Farmers, Landowners of farmed land and Partners of Agriculture who farm in the Western Lake Erie Watershed Basin. Note: Charter Bus transportation and snacks are available for all events. The purpose of the events is to provide a platform for farmers to share information about conservation practices and programs that protect our water resources.
The Sandpiper Boat Cruise involves a 3-hour cruise on the Maumee River on a 65’ welded steel vessel that was built in 1984 in Maumee, Ohio. Nearly 4,000 miles of creeks, streams and rivers empty into the 130 mile long Maumee. Early settlers used the river to transport crops to market. Today the river is primarily used for recreation and drinking water. Farmers will lead presentations in regard to conservation practices to protect water resources.
5 - 8 p.m. - Evening Cruise the Maumee River on the Sandpiper Boat while hearing informative presentations about the history of the river and conservation practices to protect water resources.
