Today, youth live in communities that increasingly include people of different cultural backgrounds. To live together in harmony, people must understand and appreciate their own culture as well as the culture of others. During this event, youth will learn more about Latino culture while experiencing traditional El Dia de los Muertos activities.
El Dia de los Muertos, traditionally celebrated on November 2, gives Latinos the chance to celebrate, honor and respect those who have lived before, like grandparents, famous leaders and saints. Youth will be making ofrendas, an altar to honor a loved one and welcome their spirit back into the home. They will also make some traditional Latin American crafts, paint a pumpkin, and enjoy a movie with popcorn and snacks.
