Area farmers, ag business people and the general public are invited to an informal on-farm ‘pasture walk’ program on the Mike Kowalski farm at 19695 Hantz Rd, Rudyard, MI 49780 on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 1 p.m. The pasture walk will feature the Kowalski’s well-managed rotational grazing system and their practice of deep tillage when pastures are re-established. Following the pasture walk, a visit to the 2nd year continuation of a hay fertility demonstration on the Berkompas farm in Rudyard will be conducted for interested people. This project compares lime and fertilizer application practices. No lime versus light surface lime application are included, as well as fertilizer rates of: 1) no fertilizer, 2) low fertilizer rate to meet crop removal, and 3) higher fertilizer rate to build up low fertility soil.
The program is free of charge. However, registration is requested by contacting MSU Extension Educator Jim Isleib at 906-387-2530 or email@example.com.
