Risky Behaviors

Ironically, although teens crave communication with parents, few parents feel totally comfortable talking about the very issues that cause such major problems in a teen's life. This session is designed to help parents communicate positively with teens about difficult but critical issues. It focuses on issues of sexual development and substance use - issues that are difficult and challenging for almost all teens and parents.

The objectives are:

  • Relate sexuality and substance use to healthy adolescent development.
  • Describe guidelines for positive communication regarding sexuality, and drug and alcohol use.
  • Practice ways to communicate with teens about these critical issues.
