Join the Michigan Farm to Institution Network for a tour featuring cabbage, Brussels sprouts and season extension hosted by Forgotten Harvest in Southeast Michigan on October 13th!
This tour will highlight seasonal fall foods, including Cultivate Michigan’s featured fall food, cabbage! Participants will experience one of Michigan’s premier food rescue organizations, Forgotten Harvest, which is also dedicated to growing a diversity of nutrient dense produce crops to feed their clientele throughout the region. All MFIN members are invited to learn more about Forgotten Harvest’s impactful and diverse organizational model, highlighting the following attributes, which have high applicability to institutional food service operations:
- A diversified vegetable farm, highlighting seasonal fall crops in production
- A tour of the high-volume, produce centric Forgotten Harvest warehouse facility
- A well-developed food rescue logistical network that covers 2,000 square miles a day
- Forgotten Harvest’s diversified business and organizational model, including a privately branded food line and incubator kitchen featuring food processing, true to its original goal to fight hunger and food waste
This tour will begin at the Forgotten Harvest farm in Fenton, and conclude at the Forgotten Harvest facility in Oak Park. Lunch will be provided. Participants will be responsible for providing their own transportation between sites. Carpooling is encouraged!
