Chippewa County Forage Field Day

Thursday, July 24, 4-7 pm eastern time. 3-hour informal educational field day/pasturewalk including three Rudyard area farms. This will be an outdoor event and involve some walking, so dress appropriately. Visits will include the Foelkersma Dairy Farm, the Bruce Berkompas farm and the Bob Love farm.
- The Foelkersma farm visit will include a visit to a triticale/pea forage field where small plots of oats/peas and barley/peas are also included.
- The Berkompas farm visit will focus on using lime and fertilizer for economical improvements to hay production and include ¼ acre demonstrations of fertilizer and lime application rates.
- The Love farm visit will include fourteen 1-acre demonstration strip plots of various annual forages.
Dr. Kim Cassida, MSU State Forage Specialist, will be on-site to answer questions on selecting and utilizing annual forages, and economical methods to improve hay production.
