Culture encompasses so many facets of who we are as individuals beyond race or ethnicity. Mentoring has the potential to bring together individuals who have very different worldviews based on their experiences and identities. This session will define cultural competency and its role in communities. Workshop participants will experience hands-on activities designed to explore issues of cultural competence, personal values, and issues of privilege. Open to community members including current and potential mentors.
The presenter will be Lisa Bottomley, Senior Mentoring Specialist with MSU Extension. Lisa will be joined by Extension Educators, Frank Cox and Scott Lakin. Frank and Scott have worked with mentoring programs throughout Michigan and have been invited presenters at national conferences.
