The Bonifas Arts Center is teaming up with 4-H SPIN Clubs this fall to teach kids how to cook locally grown food and become healthy, happy cooks and eaters for life!

Integral parts of the program are a shopping trip to the farmer’s market, basic kitchen tools and tech-niques, hands on food preparation, food safety, food chemistry, and table manners. Each class will include food preparation, the cooking process and culminates with a shared meal at the end of the class.

Kids from all local schools are welcome. This is a great after school program with a built in snack and fun learning!

Cost: $45/series

Ages: 4-6 grades, 7 & 8 graders are also welcome.

Where: at Jones Elementary Kitchen from 3:05– 5:30pm
on the following dates:

September 18– Farmer’s market trip, omelets and salad; food safety.

September 25– Pasta and tomato sauce, table setting and table manners.

October 2– Pork cutlets, coleslaw, poached pears, food mysteries, and the use of silverware.

October 9– Making bread making and apple butter, food preservation, Echolight Hobby Farm visits with life goat, milk and cheese.

October 16– Grand finale: beef stew with roast vegetables and pear tart.

  • A minimum number of 6 students must be enrolled one week prior to scheduled class.
  • Register early to ensure your space in class - and bring a friend.
  • The Bonifas class cancellation policy requires participants to cancel before the registration deadline in order to receive a refund.
  • Classes may be rescheduled due to weather.

 

The Bonifas offers a 50% scholarship, call or stop in for details.
