4-H Mentoring Weekend

4-H Mentoring Weekend is a 3-day workshop for youth and adults who are matched in a mentoring program through 4-H or other youth mentoring organizations. Mentoring program staff are also welcome to attend. The weekend is full of activities for mentoring matches with a focus on science, outdoor education, healthy living, life skills and meaningful service in order to strengthen the mentoring relationship. Mentors are also provided with structured training that aims to build the mentoring relationship.

Overview of 4-H Mentoring Weekend
The 4-H Mentoring Weekend at Kettunen Center will bring together members of the mentoring community from across the state of Michigan for a weekend of fun, learning, laughter, and memories.

Included in the registration fee are all meals, lodging, activities, and t-shirt!

Mentors/Chaperones—This option is for any mentor or chaperone who will be supervising youth throughout the weekend. You have two price choices:

  • Full Mentor Rate: The full rate for mentors is $200. Mentors who do not need a reduced rate or whose registration is paid through program funds should select this fee.
  • Mentor Requesting Reduced Rate: The reduced rate of $50 is open to any mentor who does not have grant funds available from their mentoring program.

Mentee/Youth—This option is for any youth participant. You have two price choices:

  • Full Mentee Rate: The full rate for mentees is $200. Mentees who do not need a reduced rate or whose registration is paid through program funds should select this fee.
  • Mentee Requesting Reduced Rate: The scholarship rate of $50 is open to any mentee who does not have funds available from their mentoring program.

Volunteer—A limited number of volunteers may attend this event for free. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Lisa Bottomley at lbottoml@msu.edu prior to registering online. Please note that priority is given to AmeriCorps members and volunteers willing to serve as floor monitors.

Staff—MSU Extension staff can use their operating or other appropriate accounts to pay their $200 registration fee.

Cancellation Fee—Cancellations received on or after July 15 are subject to a $50 cancellation fee.

Eligibility Requirements
Please note that this weekend is open to mentees who are 8 to 19 years of age by July 22, 2016, per 4-H overnight policy standards. Staff and mentors in attendance must have completed a volunteer screening process through their mentoring program which includes a criminal background check. This weekend is designed for mentoring program matches to participate together. Mentors and mentees must sign up for the same workshops. Peer mentors must attend sessions with their chaperone. Per the MSU Extension overnight housing policy, youth will be bunked separately from their mentors and supervised by designated floor monitors. Adult mentors and volunteers will be housed in same gender pairs, 2 per room. If you have a roommate preference, please include this on your registration form.
