4-H Mentoring Weekend is a 3-day workshop for adults and youth who are in a mentoring program through 4-H and other youth mentoring organizations. Mentoring program staff are also welcome to attend. The weekend offers activities to mentoring matches with a focus on science, outdoor education, healthy living, and meaningful service in order to strengthen the mentoring relationship. This year’s theme is Building Life Skills. Mentors are also provided with structured training that aims to build the mentoring relationship.
Please note that this weekend is open to mentees who are 11 to 19 years of age by July 17, 2015, per 4-H overnight policy standards. Staff and mentors in attendance must have completed a volunteer screening process through their mentoring program which includes a criminal background check. This weekend is designed for mentoring program matches to participate together. Mentors and mentees must sign up for the same workshops. Peer mentors must attend sessions with their chaperone. Per the MSU Extension overnight housing policy, youth will be bunked separately from their mentors and supervised by designated floor monitors. Adult mentors and volunteers will be housed in same gender pairs, 2 per room. If you have a roommate preference, please include this on your registration form.
Support for this workshop is provided by the Westrate Family Fund and other donors to the Michigan 4-H Foundation.
