Youth interested in hands-on interactive and experiential learning activities in areas such as engineering, science, discovery, biology and nature should register today for 2014 Eco-Challenge!
This year's theme is “biomimicry.” Biomimicry is where humans study designs of nature then imitate these designs to create innovative devices for us to use. Some examples of biomimicry are spiders that create web silk as strong as the Kevlar used in bulletproof vests, and Engineers could use such a material—if it had a long enough rate of decay—for parachute lines, suspension bridge cables, artificial ligaments for medicine and other purposes. Other research has proposed adhesive glue from mussels, solar cells made like leaves, fabric that emulates shark skin, harvesting water from fog like a beetle.
Visit our site at http://www.4hecochallenge.com/ for more information and to register.
Registration is $120 and includes: lab fees, a t-shirt, lab fees and material fees.
