It has been a difficult year in the cattle feeding industry. We expected lower prices for finished cattle this past summer but the magnitude of the lows was unexpected. Popular issues to be discussed at the national level in 2016 are animal welfare, use of antibiotics, impacts on the environment and world trade. Sound familiar? The purpose of this short course is to provide information to assist managers in decision making. The first session will focus on animal welfare issues and feeding strategies. The second session will address the status of cattle and corn markets, risk management tools to enhance profitability and the use of antibiotics. The Veterinary Feed Directive and strategies to deal with it will be discussed.
