2014 Spotted Wing Drosophila Workshops for Fruit Growers, IPM Scouts and Crop Consultants
Date: April 21, 2014
Time: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Olive Township Hall, 6480 136th, Holland, MI 49424
MSU Extension will present two hands-on workshops this spring to help berry growers respond to the challenges of managing Spotted Wing Drosophila. The meetings will be held near Holland on April 21, and near Fennville on April 23. The two meetings will be exactly the same. They are designed to help berry growers, crop scouts and crop consultants prepare for the 2014 growing season. The program will include a detailed review of the modes of action and performance of the key insecticides used to protect berries from this pest, including the latest results from MSU research. This will be followed by hands-on training in fly monitoring and identification, trap construction and fruit sampling methods. The workshop will be presented by members of MSU‘s Department of Entomology and MSU Extension. There is a fee of $30.00 for the workshop. Space is limited to 25 attendees per workshop.
