Alpena County 4-H Market Animal Sale Information

Are you interested in marketing livestock in Alpena County? Make sure to enroll in 4-H by March 1st

In order to be eligible to market livestock at the 2017 Alpena County Fair you must enroll in Alpena County 4-H by Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 4:30pm. Both your 4-H participation fee/scholarship and 4-H Online enrollment must be submitted by this deadline. Please note this deadline is final and no exceptions will be made.

Market Sale Rules

Are you 9-19 years old and live in Alpena County or a county that does not offer a market animal sale? If so, you are eligible to market livestock at the Alpena County 4-H Market Animal Sale. Remember, you must enroll in Alpena County 4-H by March 1, 2017, and be a member of the Alpena County 4-H Market Club in order to be eligible to market livestock at the 2017 Alpena County Fair. Alpena County 4-H Market Club

If you are planning to market livestock at the 2017 Alpena County Fair, you must to be a member of the Market Club.

4-H members must attend at least three (3) of the five (5) market club meetings in order to be eligible to sell in the 2017 Alpena County 4-H Market Animal Sale. This club does not substitute a 4-H member from participating in their regular 4-H club. You must be a member of your regular 4-H club and the market club. Topics such as market sale rules, proper show techniques, pen displays, buyer thank you notes, livestock feed/nutrition, and more will be discussed at these meetings.

Alpena County 4-H Council Travel Expense Voucher (up to $100)

Travel Expense Voucher Application

  • Must be an Alpena County 4-H member, guardian or volunteer attending an educational 4-H event or activity
  • Complete Travel Expense Voucher prior to attending event, and submit to Alpena MSU Extension office
  • Give brief presentation at Alpena County 4-H Council meeting about what you learned, made, your favorite part, etc. (3-5mins)
  • Participant will be reimbursed up to $100 ($0.50 per mile) after they complete the application and give a presentation to 4-H Council

Scholarships

Alpena County 4-H Council Educational Activity Scholarship ($30)

Educational Activity Scholarship Application

  • Must be an Alpena County 4-H member age 9-19 years old
  • Can be used for any educational 4-H event or activity; such as Summer Camp, Exploration Days, Kettunen Center workshop, etc.
  • Complete scholarship application prior to attending event and submit to Alpena MSU Extension office
  • Complete “what you learned” section in application after attending event and submit to Alpena MSU Extension office
  • Give brief presentation at Alpena County 4-H Council meeting about what you learned, made, your favorite part, etc. (3-5mins)
  • Member will be reimbursed $30 after they complete the application and give a presentation to 4-H Council
  • Can only receive (1) Educational Activity/Event Scholarship per year

Alpena County 4-H Council Youth Day Scholarship ($30-$40 - determined annually by 4-H Council)

2017 Youth Day Scholarship Application

  • Must be an Alpena County 4-H member age 9-19 years old
  • Can be used for any educational 4-H event or activity; such as Summer Camp, Exploration Days, Kettunen Center workshop, etc.
  • Complete application and submit to interviewer at Youth Day on March 4, 2017
  • Complete an interview at Youth Day to discuss what you want to use your scholarship for and how it will help you (3-5 minute interview)
  • Scholarship can go towards your attendance at an educational event or activity (cannot be used towards $85 registration fee for Exploration Days)

Alpena County 4-H Council Senior Scholarship ($200-$300)

  • Must be an Alpena County 4-H member that is a graduating High School Senior
  • Can be used for pursuing a higher education (college courses, trade school, beauty school, etc).
  • Complete application and submit to Alpena MSU Extension office by deadline
  • Complete a formal interview at the Alpena MSU Extension office
  • Scholarship winners will be announced at the Alpena High School Senior Awards Night

What are you doing this summer? Join us at summer camp, with 4-H’ers from Alcona, Montmorency, Otsego, and Presque Isle counties! Learn about natural resources, the environment, our Great Lakes, and more while participating in awesome games and group activities with campers throughout northeast Michigan! Camp activities include archery, kayaking or canoeing, water exploration sessions, and more - this year’s camp theme is all about water or “4-H20.” You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend summer camp. Make sure to register for camp early, space fills quick!

Where: Ocqueoc Outdoor Recreation Center (Presque Isle County)

When: Monday, June 26—Wednesday, June 28, 2017 (counselors stay until June 29)

Who: Youth ages 9-12 years old - Youth that will be 12 years old by the start of camp are eligible to attend

Cost: $75.00 (additional $10 for non 4-H members)

Transportation: Campers are required to find their own transportation to and from camp; carpooling is encouraged.

Registration Opens: Monday, March 6, 2017 (each county gets 13 spaces, first-come - Then campers go on a waiting list until May 1st to see if extra spaces are open)
